OBJECTIVE AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The research program is a collaboration of the Laboratory of Environmental Communication and Audiovisual Documentation (Lecad-EPEOT) of the Department of Architectural Engineering, University of Thessaly and the Archives of Contemporary Social History (ASKI).

The aim of the project is to create an integrated multimedia digital environment for the magazine “O Politis”, which influenced decisively the Greek intellectual, cultural and political life in the 20th century. During the period 1976 - 2008, it hosted reference texts covering the wider field of social sciences and humanities or literature.

The project will be based on the digitized issues of the magazine, in the form of scanned documents (pdf), a project that has already been implemented by the Archives of Contemporary Social History (ASKI). This is a total of about 29,000 pages, covering all periods of the magazine.

The (digital) Politis will include a database and a website that will allow the organization, classification and retrieval of information. The website will offer information at multiple levels and with different media (textual, iconographic, oral testimonies). Users will be able to browse the magazine by issue or otherwise by articles, topics and authors. In addition, the possibilities of storing and printing the results of their research will be offered. At the same time, texts will be included to present the history of the magazine, comment on its multidimensional contribution as well as oral testimonies from the main contributors of the different periods of the magazine.

The financing of the project will be based exclusively on donations from individuals, companies and organizations. For this reason, the implementation of the project will be modular and will follow the flow of funding.

The research program is dedicated to the memory of Stavros Konstantakopoulos (1958-2015), professor of social and political history at the Department of Political Science and History of Panteion University.
