ARCHIVE READINGS:// CITY DIGITS, GALLERY, A.ANTONOPOULOU.ART
2005
Description

P. Lazaridis' Reading Archives:/ Urban Bits is a pointed artistic comment on the reality of the media. It is digitally processed material from a rich archive consisting of newspaper and magazine clippings, which the artist gathers, thus creating an “encyclopedia” of everyday life images. “What really matters isn't the artistic use of the media, but on the contrary: the viewing of art as a means of mass communication” from the special edition accompanying the exhibition.

This event brings his work closer to a series of contemporary artistic practices, to the corroding experiences of media activism, to alternative Internet sites and to this globalized community of “new narrators” of the virtual universe. By transforming some of the most widespread images and stereotypes of the civilization of the media, we make it a field for recognizable confrontations and the scene of the collective imaginative.
