“HOMERICA”, A PUBLICATION BY PHOEBE GIANNISI
2009
Description

Homerica, Phoebe Giannisi, Kedros, 2009, 84 p.

A collection of poems with a CD

Τhe collection uses mythical persons from Homer's poems together with episodes or places borrowed from Odyssey, as different personae of  a narration. In this way, a broken multiple ego is created which, depending on where the story is at each point, plays a different role in order to deal with issues such as love, strangers, motherhood, journeys, memory, eras, nostalgia.

The recordings included in the CD, together with the poems, compose a complete work which incorporates the written word and recitation  as a series of actions-performances. The oral trail- the in situ recitations- are added to the written trail, which , being first in turn, leaves its mark on the  time and place  where it  was written. The recitations were carried out and recorded by Phoebe Giannisi, at selected sites related to each poem as their natural acoustic environment, during a two-day summer excursion in Pelion in July 2009. These recitations attempt to remind us of the oral origins of poetry.
